Accused of molesting a minor student, angry mob beat up a school teacher; he died

A teacher was beaten to death by a mob in Gomati district of Tripura. The teacher was accused of molesting a minor student. Angered by this, the local people attacked the school teacher. A police officer said on Sunday that the teacher died two days after the incident. The police have registered an FIR in this regard. However, no one has been arrested. 

It is alleged that the 40-year-old teacher molested the girl during tuition in Udaipur city. After the incident came to light, the local people beat up the government school teacher on Thursday. Assistant Inspector General of Police (Law and Order) Anant Das said, “After beating him brutally, the local people took the teacher to RK Pur police station on the night of August 8 in the presence of his wife and registered a case of molestation against him. On the advice of doctors, the accused stayed in the local health center overnight.”

The teacher fell ill after returning home

The accused teacher was arrested. However, he got bail from the local court on Friday. Ananta Das said that after returning home, the teacher fell ill and was admitted to GBP Hospital in Agartala. He said that he died during treatment on Saturday. The officer said that the police had started investigating the case.

MLA condemned the attack on the teacher  

Local MLA and state finance minister Pranajit Singh Roy condemned the attack on the respected English teacher. “Anyone can be accused, but taking the law into one’s own hands is a crime. Chief Minister Manik Saha was informed about the brutal murder of the teacher. Police will take legal action against those involved in the crime,” he told reporters.
