Yahya Sinwar becomes the new chief of Hamas, he is the mastermind of terrorist attack in Israel

Beirut: Palestinian terrorist organization Hamas said that it has elected Yahya Sinwar as its new leader. Sinwar is the main conspirator of the attacks on Israel on October 7 last year. Hamas said in a statement on Tuesday that it has appointed Sinwar as the new head of its political bureau. Sinwar will replace Ismail Haniya. Haniya was killed in an alleged Israeli attack in Iran last week. Sinwar has not appeared in public since the attack carried out by Hamas on southern Israel on October 7 last year.

Yahya Sinwar was born in 1962 in the Khan Younis refugee camp in Egyptian-ruled Gaza. Sinwar completed his studies at the Islamic University of Gaza, where he received a bachelor’s degree in Arabic studies. Sinwar’s family was expelled from al-Majdal Asqalan, now known as Ashkelon, during the 1948 Arab-Israeli War. Sinwar is one of the co-founders of Hamas’ security apparatus.

The mastermind behind the attack on Israel

Sinwar is believed to be the mastermind behind the Hamas-led terror attack on Israel on October 7 last year. This was the deadliest terror attack in Israel’s history. Around 1,200 people were killed in this attack and about 250 people were taken hostage. After this attack, Israel launched a military operation on Gaza. In September 2015, Sinwar was declared a terrorist by the United States government. (AP)
