New Delhi: On one hand, while the monsoon has given relief to people from the scorching heat, on the other hand, increased cases of dengue have been reported from many parts of the country including Karnataka, Kerala, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, and Maharashtra. Given this doctors have advised us to take precautions. Let us tell you, dengue is a vector-borne disease, which spreads due to the bite of an infected mosquito. The outbreak of this disease is seen in more than 100 countries.
Dr. Santosh Kumar gave the information
Santosh Kumar, Senior Consultant and Lead Pediatrics and Neonatology at Motherhood Hospitals Banashankari Bengaluru, said, “Children are at a higher risk of contracting different types of dengue fever than in previous years. Traditionally, the fever illness is short-lived, with vomiting and abdominal pain, loss of appetite, and muscle pain. But this season, children with unusual upper respiratory infections and gastro-enteritis are also testing positive for dengue.”
Let us tell you, 5,374 cases of dengue have been reported in Karnataka, out of which five people have died. At the same time, 882 cases have been reported in Telangana, 288 in Odisha, 400 in Ernakulam, Kerala and cases of both dengue and malaria have been reported in Andhra Pradesh.
Experts said that dengue fever is common and it is important to detect it early. He also said that although it mostly gets cured on its own, sometimes it takes a terrible form, which is also known as dengue hemorrhagic fever or Dengue shock syndrome. But if you are experiencing symptoms of persistent vomiting, abdominal pain, mucosal bleeding, and blood circulation failure, then these can be signs of a more serious case of dengue.
