eKYC For LPG Customers: Oil Marketing Companies (OMC) have made e-KYC (Know Your Customer Process) mandatory. After which long queues are being seen at gas agencies. Also, people are facing a lot of problems. However, in the meantime, there is relief news for LPG customers.

An announcement by Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri has solved a major problem of crores of LPG gas cylinder customers. Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri has clarified that there is no fixed time limit for completing the eKYC process for LPG customers. However, he has said that this process is critical to delivering the cylinder to the right customer, but no one needs to be worried about it. He has announced this on the social media platform (X-Twitter).

The KYC process has been going on for the last several months

Hardeep Singh Puri has responded to the letter of VD Satheesan, Leader of Opposition in the Kerala Assembly, in which he considered KYC necessary and said that it is troublesome for customers to complete this process by going to the concerned gas agency. Responding to Satheesan’s letter, Puri said, ‘Oil and marketing companies are running KYC process to eliminate fake gas cylinder customers and fake connections.

This exercise is also helpful in stopping the booking of fake commercial gas cylinders. That is why the companies have implemented the eKYC process for the LPG cluster, which has been going on for the last 8 months. Puri said, ‘The purpose of this exercise is to provide LPG service to the real customer and stop fake connections.’

Hardeep Singh Puri told how eKYC is being done

Not only this, the Union Minister (Hardeep Singh Puri) has also given complete information about the eKYC process. He said, ‘The employee of the gas agency himself verifies the documents of the customers. This process is done through a mobile app at the time of delivery of the LPG cylinder. The employee captures the customer’s Aadhaar credentials and uploads them on the app. After this, an OTP comes on the customer’s registered mobile number, through which the KYC process is completed. If the customer wants, he can also complete this process by going to the gas agency.

There is no time limit for eKYC

Puri said that if the customer wants, he can complete eKYC himself. For this, the oil marketing company’s app has to be installed. No time limit has been set by the companies or the government for eKYC. It is not necessary to go to the office of the LPG distributor agency for this work.

It is worth mentioning that the government has asked the oil companies to get LPG gas e-KYC done to give subsidies to LPG consumers. For this, messages are also being sent to the consumers by the agency. Aadhar cards will be linked for the authentication of the consumers. For which face scanning and fingerprint scanning (UIDAI) of the consumers will be done.
