Most Powerful Non-Nuclear Explosive: India has created an explosive that is twice as deadly as trinitrotoluene (TNT). It has been named SEBEX-2. It is one of the most powerful non-nuclear explosives in the world. According to reports, this can revolutionize India’s explosive capability. The use of SEBEX-2 in bombs, artillery shells and warheads will increase their destructive capability manifold. The weight of the new explosive is also very less. The formulation of SEBEX-2 has also been certified by the Indian Navy after testing.
The Navy tested SEBEX-2 under the Defence Export Promotion Scheme. Since it increases the capability of existing weapons manifold, armies around the world would like to use this new explosive. This explosive has been manufactured by Economic Explosives Limited under ‘Make in India’.
SEBEX-2 is twice as deadly as TNT
The lethality of an explosive is measured by comparing it to TNT. TNT, or trinitrotoluene, is the most popular explosive. The energy released in the explosion of 1 gram of TNT is about 4,000 joules. The amount of energy released in the explosion of one metric ton (1,000 kilograms) of TNT is called the TNT equivalent. The higher the TNT equivalent, the more lethal it is;
India’s most lethal non-nuclear explosive to date is used in the warhead of the Brahmos missile, which has a TNT equivalence of 1.50. Most warheads in the world have a TNT equivalence of between 1.25-1.30. SEBEX-2 has a TNT equivalence of 2.01, which means it is the most lethal non-conventional explosive to date.
Preparations are underway to make even more lethal explosives
The Navy has certified Economic Explosives Limited’s first thermobaric explosive SITBEX 1. SITBEX 1 has a long explosion time and generates a lot of heat. According to the report, it effectively targets enemy bunkers, tunnels, and other fortified places. According to a report published in The Economic Times, the company that made SEBEX-2 is also working on another explosive. That explosive will be 2.3 times more lethal than TNT.
