Lok Sabha Elections/Muslims reservation: The issue of inclusion of Muslims in OBC quota by TMC of West Bengal and Congress government of Karnataka is in the headlines even before the last phase of voting in the Lok Sabha elections. The BJP under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi adopted an aggressive stance on this issue from the beginning of its election campaign. BJP leaders are unanimously accusing the opposition of snatching reservation and other benefits from Hindus and giving it to Muslims.
The tussle over Muslim reservation intensified because the Calcutta High Court in one of its decisions had cancelled the OBC list after 2010. This list contained Muslim castes. Now UP CM Yogi has welcomed the decision of the Calcutta High Court and targeted the Mamata government. Yogi said, ‘The Constitution of India does not allow reservation on the basis of religion. The TMC government had given reservation to Muslim castes as a part of appeasement.
Meanwhile, SP leader ST Hasan said, ‘When his government comes, reservation will be given to Muslims by amending the Constitution.
Now, Rajasthan’s Bhajan Lal government has also said that it will take cognizance of this issue. How much will the issue of Muslim reservation help BJP? This will be known on June 4. But why did the High Court end the reservation for Muslims, let us know the reason for this.
BJP again became vocal on Muslim reservation
Bhajanlal government of Rajasthan is preparing to review the reservation of Muslim castes included in OBC. After the removal of the code of conduct for the Lok Sabha elections, the government will form a high power committee and review the OBC quota of Muslim castes. Rajasthan’s Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Avinash Gehlot has confirmed the review of OBC reservation for Muslim castes. After which the question has started arising whether there is a crisis on OBC reservation of 14 Muslim castes in Rajasthan?
Now there is a crisis on Muslim reservation in Rajasthan
- There are 91 castes in the OBC category in Rajasthan.
- There are 14 Muslim castes included in OBC.
- 5 castes including Gujjar are included in SBC category.
- Government will review Muslim OBC reservation.
Big decision of Calcutta High Court
The Calcutta High Court recently cancelled the reservation given to the Muslims of the state under the Other Backward Classes (OBC) category by the Mamata Banerjee-led TMC government of West Bengal. In its decision, the High Court cancelled the entire series of orders passed by the Bengal government between March 2010 and May 2012, by which 77 communities, including 75 Muslims, were given reservation under the Other Backward Classes (OBC) category.
