Delhi NCR Weather Update: The national capital on Saturday recorded its hottest day of the season so far and the mercury reached 43.7 degrees Celsius. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) gave this information. The IMD said that a ‘red alert’ of severe heat has been issued in Delhi-NCR for the next 48 hours i.e. Sunday and Monday. Mungeshpur recorded a maximum temperature of 46.8 degrees Celsius on Saturday, followed by 46.7 degrees Celsius in Najafgarh, 46.2 degrees Celsius in Pitampura, 46 degrees Celsius in Pusa, 45.2 degrees Celsius in Ayanagar and 44.2 degrees Celsius in Palam.
What will happen in North India?
Temperatures may rise further in Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. Heat wave conditions are possible in Gujarat, Rajasthan, parts of Punjab and Haryana.
The mercury reached four degrees above normal
The maximum temperature recorded at Delhi’s main meteorological center in Safdarjung was 43.7 degrees Celsius, which is three degrees above normal for this season and is the highest maximum temperature so far this season. The Meteorological Department office has predicted ‘heat wave’ in many parts of Delhi and has issued a ‘red alert’. The Meteorological Department has also predicted partly cloudy sky in Delhi and strong winds at the speed of 25 to 35 km per hour.
Avoid heatwaves for 7 days
The IMD, in its seven-day forecast, referred to the heat wave and urged extreme care for certain people with health conditions. The Meteorological Department said that the scorching heat is a matter of concern for people of all ages, especially infants, the elderly and vulnerable persons with chronic diseases.
The weather department also suggested drinking enough water and using ORS or home-made beverages like lassi, torani (rice water), lemonade and buttermilk to avoid dehydration.
According to the Meteorological Department, heat wave conditions occur when the maximum temperature is 4.5 degrees or more above the normal temperature and reaches at least 45 degrees Celsius.
The relative humidity in Delhi on Saturday ranged between 70 percent and 18 percent. According to the IMD, the minimum temperature was recorded at 27.1 degrees Celsius, which is 0.6 degrees above the season’s average. The Meteorological Department has predicted the maximum and minimum temperatures for Sunday to be around 44 and 28 degrees Celsius respectively.
Rainfall alert: Where will it rain?
According to ‘Skymet Weather’, light to moderate rain and thundershowers are expected over Telangana, Karnataka, interior Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Lakshadweep, parts of Odisha and Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Light to moderate rain may occur over southern Chhattisgarh, Sikkim, Northeast India, northern Chhattisgarh, southern Konkan and Goa and southern Madhya Maharashtra. Light rain is possible over Western Himalayas, Vidarbha, Marathwada, southern Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat.
