Taking into account the air pollution crisis in Mumbai and Delhi, the BCCI Secretary Jay Shah stated, “While we want to celebrate the ICC World Cup in grand style, we are equally committed to the well-being and safety of the people. Considering the alarming levels of pollution in both cities, we have raised this issue with the ICC. It has been decided that there will be no fireworks during matches held in Mumbai and Delhi. The board always prioritizes the welfare of its fans and stakeholders in environmental matters.”

High Court Takes Notice

The Bombay High Court, on Tuesday, took cognizance of the worsening air quality and rising air pollution concerns in Mumbai and its suburbs. Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya and Justice Arif Doctor referred to several news reports highlighting the rapid decline in AQI levels in the metropolis. On Tuesday, Mumbai’s AQI stood at 172, while it reached a dangerous 260 at the Bandra-Kurla Complex. Delhi has also been witnessing a consistent increase in AQI levels.
