Basmati Rice Cultivation
The Chogawan block is known for the cultivation of quality basmati rice. The minister said the Chogawan block has a total cultivable area of 32,000 hectares. Of this, paddy is cultivated on 28,753 hectares of land, of which 25,000 hectares is sown under basmati crop. He said that out of the total 102 villages under the project, 42 villages of the block have been selected for this cultivation.
Export of rice
“Basmati rice has huge potential for export as most of the grain produced in the region is exported to European and West Asian countries,” Khudiyan said, adding that basmati rice is currently exported to more than 60 countries. Amritsar district alone contributed around Rs 9,000 crore to rice exports last year. (Input: Language)
