Tackling Corruption Complaints: A Look Back at Last Year
Last year witnessed a surge in complaints against officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs, making it the epicenter of corruption grievances. Following closely were allegations against railway and banking authorities. The recently published annual report by the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) sheds light on this issue. According to an official, the CVC has given chief vigilance officers a three-month timeline to investigate these complaints.
As per the report, a total of 115,203 corruption complaints were received across all departments and organizations under the Central Government in 2022, spanning all categories of officers and employees. Among these, 85,437 complaints have been resolved, while 29,766 remain pending. Notably, 22,034 complaints have remained unresolved for over three months.
The report highlights that the Ministry of Home Affairs received 46,643 complaints against its officials, railways faced 10,580 complaints, and banks encountered 8,129 complaints. Out of the total complaints against the ministry, 23,919 have been resolved, while 22,724 are still pending, with 19,198 among them remaining unresolved for over three months.
Similarly, railways have resolved 9,663 complaints, leaving 917 pending, of which nine complaints were pending for more than three months. Banks have successfully addressed 7,762 corruption complaints, with 367 still pending, including 78 complaints pending for more than three months.
The report also reveals that the National Capital Territory (NCT) of Delhi had 7,370 complaints registered against its employees, out of which 6,804 have been resolved, while 566 remain pending, and 18 among them are pending for more than three months.
In addition to this, a total of 4,710 complaints were lodged against employees of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (including the Central Public Works Department), Delhi Development Authority (DDA), Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), Delhi Urban Art Commission, Hindustan Prefab Limited, Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board, NBCC and NSCIPB. Among these, 3,889 complaints have been resolved, while 821 are pending, and 577 complaints have remained unresolved for more than three months.
