In an inspiring address on the eve of the 77th Independence Day, President Droupadi Murmu emphasized the pivotal role of women in the nation’s progress and urged them to conquer challenges with bravery, propelling themselves forward in life.
President Murmu acknowledged that economic empowerment is a catalyst for women’s advancement within both their families and society. She passionately encouraged all citizens to prioritize women’s empowerment, highlighting the remarkable strides women have made in fields that were once unimaginable. The historical legacy of women freedom fighters like Matangini Hazra, Kanaklata Baruah, Kasturba Gandhi, Sarojini Naidu, Ammu Swaminathan, Rama Devi, Aruna Asaf Ali, and Sucheta Kriplani was underscored as a wellspring of inspiration for future generations to serve the nation and society with unwavering confidence.
“I’m delighted to observe the dedicated focus on economic empowerment for women in our country. Strengthening women’s positions within their families and society, economic empowerment has become a cornerstone,” said President Murmu. She passionately implored sisters and daughters to face challenges head-on, arming themselves with courage to forge ahead in life. The developmental strides of women have been an integral facet of our freedom struggle’s ideals, she stated.
President Murmu celebrated India’s democratic heritage, noting that the country has been a cradle of democracy since ancient times. The erasure of these democratic institutions during colonial rule was lamented, but with India’s independence, the nation embarked on a journey towards the cessation of colonialism. “Our freedom struggle’s uniqueness doesn’t solely lie in its achievement, but also in its tenacity,” she emphasized.
Mahatma Gandhi’s leadership and the contribution of visionary leaders were lauded by President Murmu as the driving force behind India’s national movement. They revitalized India’s soul, reigniting its civilizational values. The President highlighted the global impact of India’s core principles, “truth and non-violence,” which have been instrumental in numerous political struggles worldwide.

The National Education Policy was hailed for its flexibility and its fusion of timeless values with contemporary skills. President Murmu termed it a “visionary policy” that will revolutionize the education sector over time, steering the nation towards transformative change.
