Mumbai: A youth was killed in public firing at Lalji Pada in Mumbai’s Kandivli area around 8 am on Sunday. The accused, aged around 32, shot Manoj Chauhan and fled. The police searched everywhere to find him.
CCTV footage of the incident has surfaced. According to him, Manoj Chauhan was walking on the road in Ganeshnagar and the accused was following him. Manoj was wearing a t-shirt and bermuda shorts. It is also believed that there was a conversation between the two. The accused suddenly fired at him from about five feet away. Manoj Chauhan died on the spot after being shot. The accused ran away leaving her in a pool of blood. People came running from all sides. He called an ambulance and took Manoj Chauhan to the hospital. However, Manoj Chauhan died on the spot due to a bullet wound in the head.
The police sent Manoj Chauhan’s body for postmortem. A case of murder under IPC 302 was registered against the accused and a search operation was launched to arrest him. A search was launched based on CCTV footage and other surveillance.
The police did not immediately say anything officially about the reason for the murder. It is being said that Manoj Lalchand Chauhan works in a fake jewelery unit. His wife and children live in the ancestral land. Manoj’s brother reached the hospital to take possession of his body.
The police have investigated several reasons behind the murder, including professional rivalry.
Last October too, there was firing in this area. Local leaders said that the continuous incidents of firing have created an atmosphere of fear among the local people.
