In the first phase of voting, neither of the two got more than 50 percent votes. Today’s re-voting means that there will be a decisive contest between the two candidates. To form a government in Turkey, 50 percent of the vote is required. If not, there is a second round of voting. This voting is called ‘run off’.
No one got a majority in the first round
It will be interesting to see whether Erdogan will be able to save or lose his seat in this crucial contest. Voting will start at 8:00 am local time in Turkey and will continue till 5:00 pm. The eyes of the world are fixed on today’s vote. There was 88.8 percent voting in the first round. Erdogan got 49.4 percent of the vote, while Kilikdaroglu, Turkey’s so-called Gandhi, got 45 percent. Whereas Sinan Ogun, the nationalist candidate, got 5.2 percent of the vote.
Erdogan has been in power for 20 years
Erdogan has been ruling Turkey for nearly 20 years. He has been in power since 2003. In the same year, he became the Prime Minister of the country for the first time. At the same time, in the year 2014, he became the President of Türkiye. During these 20 years, he has been both the Prime Minister and the President of the country.
The public is not happy with Erdogan’s work
