One district, one product plays an important role in promoting Himachali’s products: Chief Minister

Shimla, May 28 (Hindustan Times). Chief Minister Thakur Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu said that the state government is emphasizing on promoting the unique products of the state. One district one product initiative will play an important role in realizing this objective. Unity malls will be set up in the state to implement this concept, which aims to promote balanced regional development in all the districts of the country. One product from each district will be selected, branded and promoted for overall socio-economic development of the state.

The Chief Minister said that products will be selected keeping in mind the existing ecosystem. The initiative also includes activities like exhibitions, capacity building etc. at the state and district level. GI-tagged products of the state, handicraft products and handicraft products of other states will be available under one roof.

Himachali handicrafts have a special identity of their own. The handicraft products produced in the state used to be made keeping in mind the needs of the local people but now they are also very popular among tourists. The variety of handicrafts available in the state include wood carving, leather embroidery, metalware, carpets, paintings and woolen textiles. He said that the wide range of handicrafts found in the state is unique and reflects the artistic skills of the artisans, hence special emphasis is being laid on its branding.

Thakur Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu said that the incredible beauty and variety of handicrafts of the state have left an indelible mark in the hearts of the people. These include Kullu Shawls, Kangra Tea, Himachali Chulli Oil, Himachali Black Cumin, Chamba Rumal, Kinnauri and Kullu Shawls and Kangra Painting and many other products. The people of Himachal Pradesh have developed rich traditions of handicrafts over the years, which are creative and distinctive. The State Government successfully hosted the G20 Summit at Dharamsala on 19th and 20th April, 2023, wherein the products of the State were highly appreciated by the foreign delegates.

He said thangka painting is a unique art form popular among Tibetan artisans worldwide, which is done on woven fabrics, especially cotton fabrics. Lord Mahatma Buddha and other deities are mostly depicted in these paintings. This art is very popular especially among foreign tourists. Himachal Pradesh’s finest shawls, Himachali products, embroidery, woolen garments and leather crafts are popular.
