Sare Jahan Se Accha Poet Mohammad Iqbal will be out of DU syllabus

The Academic Council of Delhi University (DU) on Friday passed a resolution to remove a chapter on Pakistan’s national poet Mohammad Iqbal from the political science syllabus. Members of the Academic Council have confirmed this. Born in Sialkot in undivided India in 1877, Iqbal wrote the famous song ‘Sare Jahan Se Accha’. He is often credited with giving the idea of ​​Pakistan. Officials said that Iqbal BA is part of a chapter titled ‘Modern Indian Political Thought’ in the sixth semester syllabus.

Approval of proposal for change in courses

The Academic Council of Delhi University has also approved several other proposals, including some controversial ones like implementing a four-year integrated teacher education program despite the dissent of some members. Officials said the council has approved several syllabus changes, including the removal of a chapter on Pakistan’s national poet Mohammad Iqbal from the BA Political Science syllabus, on which the Executive Council will take a final decision.

Six members of the Academic Council expressed their dissent against the proposal.

 

The meeting which started on Friday continued till 1.30 pm on Saturday. The Council approved a proposal to replace the Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed.) program with a four-year integrated teacher education program. Six members of the academic council opposed the proposal, saying there was no consultation with teachers.

Iqbal will be out of syllabus!

The council also passed a resolution to remove a chapter on Pakistan’s national poet Mohammad Iqbal from the political science syllabus.
