Dhamtari, May 26 (Hindustan Times). Preparations for kharif cultivation have already started in the region before the arrival of monsoon. Farmers are coming to stock fertilizers and seeds and take loans from cooperative banks. 22717 farmers of the district have so far taken loans of 82 crores for kharif cultivation and the process of taking loans from banks is going on. Farmers are reaching out to banks for loans so that they can prepare for the arrival of the monsoon.
About one lakh 20 thousand farmers of Dhamtari, Kurud, Magarlod, Bhakra, Kukrel and Nagri talukas of the district are associated with cooperative societies and banks, which cultivate with their cooperation. Farmers start preparations for kharif farming from the month of April. Fertilizers and seeds are stockpiled, so that shortage of fertilizers and seeds is not faced during the prime time of cultivation. According to the details received from the district nodal officer office, 22717 farmers of the district have so far taken loans of Rs.82 crore 63 lakh 45 thousand from cooperative banks for kharif cultivation. These loans include cash and inputs, including fertilizers, seeds. In the month of June, preparation for kharif farming will speed up and the number of farmers taking loans from banks will increase. It is worth mentioning that in Dhamtari district last year 60637 farmers cultivated by taking loans of 225 crore 56 lakh 96 thousand rupees.
Most of these farmers have deposited loans through linking and cash after harvesting the kharif paddy crop. Rest of the farmers are accumulating loans and taking loans again. Because monsoon will arrive in the region from June 15 and farmers will start farming. Vanachal farmers are doing dry tillage in the fields. As soon as it rains, we will start the cultivation by sprinkling the seeds. Seeing the convenience, many farmers of the district also cultivate by taking loans from government and private banks. It is worth mentioning that this year there is an assembly election. Farmers will take more loans in view of elections, as the loan waiver scheme is announced during assembly elections, farmers will take loans faster.
