Union Minister of State for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution and Rural Development Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti visited Food Corporation of India, Regional Office, Lucknow on Thursday. Meanwhile, the Union Minister of State reviewed the progress of wheat procurement in Uttar Pradesh.
The General Manager of Food Corporation of India (Uttar Pradesh) informed the Union Minister that a total of 2.12 lakh tonnes of wheat has been procured by all government agencies while giving the details of purchases made so far under Rabi Marketing Season 2023 in Uttar Pradesh. -24. Bad weather this year, crop damage due to unseasonal rains, heavy rains, etc., high market prices, non-sale of wheat by medium and large farmers and increase in wheat market prices last year were some of the reasons for low procurement. . Due to this reason only 1.63 lakh farmers have registered for sale of wheat this year, which is less than previous years.
Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti expressed her satisfaction over the steps taken for procurement of wheat in the state of Uttar Pradesh and praised the performance of the state of Uttar Pradesh on other issues.
Mentioning the steps taken by the government for wheat procurement, the minister said that more than 5900 wheat procurement centers have been opened by all government agencies, while FCI has opened three centers this time compared to last year. Farmers and crime run many more purchase centers to increase purchases, resulting in a significant increase in the percentage of purchases as well. Crop quality is being affected due to bad weather, quality standards have been relaxed to protect farmers from losses and light quality wheat is being procured without any cut to enable farmers to get full benefit of the support price. Apart from direct purchase from farmers, instructions have also been issued for purchase on commission basis through Gram Panchayats, Artis and FPOs etc. Along with this, NAFED agency has also been nominated for purchase of wheat. Apart from this, shopping is also being done through mobile shopping centers in the village itself.
While discussing the purchase of coarse grains in the state, it was found that more effective steps need to be taken to increase the procurement in view of the production of coarse grains in the state.
After the meeting, the minister also awarded the employees for outstanding performance in official language and remarkable performance in sports.
Rajat Sharma, General Manager Uttar Pradesh and senior officials of the Ministry, State Government and Food Corporation of India were present in the meeting. Along with this, the in-charge of the state’s wheat buying centers and farmers also joined the meeting through video conferencing.
