DNC Election: Petition to High Court on Voting Rights, Notices Issued to Concerned Parties

New Delhi, May 25 (Hindustan Times). The Delhi High Court has issued notice to the Delhi government and the DNC and Trend Nursing Council on a petition seeking to give voting rights to all nurses registered with the Delhi Nursing Council (DNC) in elections to the office bearers and executive bodies. DNC. A bench headed by Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma has issued this notice.

The petition has been filed by the Indian Professional Nurses Association (IPNA). Advocates Robin Raju and Joel Joseph, appearing for the petitioner, have said that there is a lack of financial transparency in the functioning of the DNC. The petition sought a directive to the DNC and the Delhi government to publish details of the DNC’s income and expenditure on its website. An audit of the DNC’s income and expenses has never been released to this day.

The petition said there is an urgent need to amend the Delhi Nurses Council Act to end the current undemocratic and arbitrary system of nominating members of the DNC. The petition said that around 90 thousand nurses have registered with the DNC but they have no right to choose their representatives. Denying nurses the right to choose a representative for the DNC is disrespectful to any other professional. The petition said that professionals like doctors, lawyers and chartered accountants have the right to vote to elect their representatives, but that is not the case with nurses. Delhi Nursing Council is a statutory body which came into existence under the Delhi Nursing Council Act. The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of Delhi monitors its work.
