The matter of inauguration of the new Parliament building has now reached the Supreme Court. A petition has been filed seeking an order from the court that the President should inaugurate the new complex of Parliament House. The petition filed by advocate CR Jaya Sukin said that the court should direct the Lok Sabha Secretariat to be inaugurated by the President. Referring to the statement issued by the Lok Sabha Secretary General on May 18, the lawyer said that inaugurating the PM is a violation of the Constitution and the President should be called for the inauguration.

Not inviting the President to the inauguration of Parliament is a violation of the Constitution

Referring to Article 79 of the Constitution, the lawyer said, Parliament means both the House and the President. Parliament is formed by combining all three. Thus the President is an integral part of the Parliament and its guardian. The petition said that the President is considered to be the first citizen of the country to summon and adjourn a session of Parliament. He administers oath to the Prime Minister and his cabinet. Not only that, if a bill is approved it is in the name of the President. The petition said that not inviting the President to the inauguration ceremony of the Parliament in such a situation is an insult to him and a violation of the Constitution.
