Punjab News: Punjab’s Non-Resident Indian (NRI) Affairs Minister Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal on Wednesday accused the central government of preventing entry into India of non-resident Punjabis who had joined the farmers’ agitation before the repeal of three central agriculture laws. Dhaliwal was speaking at a ‘Foreign Contact Program’ jointly organized by the Union Ministry of External Affairs and the Department of NRI Affairs, Government of Punjab.

The treatment of tourist Punjabis is deplorable

Minister Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal said the central government should stop “harassing” non-resident Punjabis. Dhaliwal said that non-resident Indians (NRIs) who participated in the farmers’ movement were harassed in various ways, were prevented from entering India and many others were blacklisted. He said such action was ‘reprehensible’. He said that such behavior should stop as NRI Punjabis participated in this movement because they love their country and their land, so they are also concerned about the progress here. Dhaliwal said that such behavior towards tourist Punjabis sends a negative message to the Indian government abroad, which should be stopped.

‘Foreign Punjabis should also get right to buy land in Punjab’

Speaking on another issue, Dhaliwal said that the country’s government should take concrete steps for those seeking political asylum abroad. He said that irrespective of the status of a political asylum seeker, there should be a provision that even after acquiring the citizenship of a foreign country, he can come to his own country. Along with this, Dhaliwal also demanded that migrant Punjabis should be allowed to buy land in Punjab.
