The Rajpipla Sessions Court of Gujarat’s Narmada district has sentenced the Aam Aadmi Party MLA and nine other people to six months in jail. The court has pronounced this sentence during the hearing of a case related to the violence that took place during the panchayat elections.
The name of the accused MLA is Chaitra Vasava. Chaitar Vasava is one of the five AAP MLAs in BJP-ruled Gujarat to win from Dediapada, a reserved constituency for Scheduled Tribes in Narmada district, in the December 2022 elections.
The Rajpipla court convicted the accused under Section 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) of the Indian Penal Code, but acquitted them under Sections 395 (dacoity), 504 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 506 (2) (criminal intimidation). Apart from the jail sentence, the court has also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 each.
Rajpipla Court Judge N. R. Joshi also ordered their release under the Probation of Offenders Act, provided that all the accused pay Rs. 20,000 bonds were to be issued.
Along with this, the court has also directed him not to contact the complainant or his relatives for two years. Along with this, the MLA and nine other accused, released after the sentence, will have to present their present address and mobile phone number in the court.
After pronouncing the verdict, the judge observed that the accused were not involved in any other criminal case. All of them also assured the court that they will behave properly, so they can be released on probation.
In fact, Satish Vasava, a resident of Boraj village, has alleged that the accused assaulted him on 19 December 2021. Not only this, his mobile phone and gold chain were also confiscated for supporting a candidate of a rival group in the Gram Panchayat elections. The court has sentenced in this case.
