Dehradun: The High Power Committee constituted by the government to draft the Uniform Civil Code will prepare the draft of the UCC and submit it to the government by the end of June.
The committee is busy preparing and finalizing this draft. Efforts are on to ensure that there is no shortfall in the UCC draft. The committee members interacted with all the commission chairpersons at Annexe Bhawan today and took their suggestions and tried to get their views on various issues from the general public through public dialogue in the auditorium.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said on Wednesday that the UCC committee has asked to prepare the draft and submit it to the government by the end of June. He says that this draft of Uttarakhand government’s Uniform Civil Code will be a model for all other states.
During the 2022 assembly elections, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami announced the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code in the state and shortly after taking office, he formed a 3-member committee headed by retired judge Ranjana Prakash Desai to draft it. was done which was given a time of 6 months, but the complex draft of the UCC could not be prepared in that time. So far the term of the committee has been extended twice.
A draft has been prepared by the committee, but there are still many issues and points which need to be improved. Now the committee is in direct communication with the chairmen of the commission and the leaders of the political parties on these issues.
However, the committee has taken input from all religious leaders to intellectuals, experts in various fields and general public in drafting the UCC as it is not an easy task to lay down the same rules for all religions, castes and communities. The chairman of the committee says that he is making every possible effort to prepare such a draft of the UCC, which is universal and universal, so that there is least room for amendment.
