Varanasi: Public awareness about Khelo India University Games is also increasing. Athletes have also started arriving in the city to take part in the competition organized at IIT BHU’s Ramesh Srinivasan Student Activity Centre.
To promote the sports, a yoga school was organized at Assi Ghat on Wednesday as a joint initiative of the Uttar Pradesh Sports Department and the Yoga Institute. In which the people present on the ghat participated in yoga practice with the sports coach along with the players. Regional Sports Officer R.P. Singh, Deputy Sports Officer Manjoor Alam, Khelo India volunteers and people associated with Sports Authority of India also participated in the yoga exercise.
It may be mentioned that wrestling matches will be held at IIT BHU from May 26 to 29 under Khelo India University Games. Yoga competitions will start here from June 1. A total of 96 athletes from various universities will showcase their skills in various categories in the three-day yoga competition. To participate in the competition, the players and their coaches reached Banaras station by Gyanganga Express, Kent station by Gondia-Barouni Express and Bhartpur Airport by plane till late Tuesday evening. The young players were welcomed at the help desk set up by the sports department and taken to the hotel.
