Organized awareness lectures on the rights and responsibilities of students at the educational institution and workplace

Udhampur, May 23 (Hindustan Times). Committee Against Sexual Harassment organized an awareness lecture on ‘Rights and Responsibilities of Students in Educational Institutions and Workplace’ at the college campus on Tuesday to create awareness among the students. Principal of Government Women’s College Udhampur Prof. as the chief guest on this occasion. Anjali was a guild.

The Chief Guest in his address appreciated the efforts of the organizers for conducting such awareness program as it will help the students to increase their knowledge about their rights and responsibilities in the educational institutions and use them in the right direction.

The resource person on the occasion was Sandeep Kaur, Member Child Welfare Committee, Udhampur. From the very beginning it highlighted women’s rights and legal remedies under the law. Later he elaborated on 10 women security rights that women should know. She further spoke about various sections like Section 354, Section 294, National Commission for Women Act, 1990, Zero FIR etc. He further said that there are some remedies against sexual harassment which a student should know like punishment under Indian Penal Code, POCSO etc. He in Visakha Vs. State of Rajasthan, (1997) 6 SECC 241 also informed the students by giving the example of guidelines. He concluded his talk with a question session in which students clarified their doubts and also shared their experiences.

Earlier Dr. Seema Sharma, Convener CASH delivered the formal welcome address. The program was conducted by Kritika Thakur, a student of semester-2 while the vote of thanks was done by Aastha, a student of semester-2.

About 90 students participated in this program. Yasmin Rehman, President Child Welfare Committee, Udhampur, Dr. Ashok Kumar, Prof. Sarika Mahajan, Dr. Keval Kumar, Prof. Sumita Rao, Prof. Tania Akhtar, Prof. Shalu Jasrotia, Prof. Yash Paul, Prof. Rajinder Singh, Dinesh Kumar and Prof. Yash Kumar attended the event.
