Sirsa: Withdrawal of circular on increasing penalty for electricity theft is a farmer-friendly decision: Power Minister

Sirsa: Haryana Power Minister Ranjit Singh said the state government has scrapped the Haryana Electricity Regulatory Commission’s (HERC) recommendation to increase power theft penalties for farmers. In this regard, the state government will work according to the old policy. Chief Minister Manohar Lal has also clarified that the government is not bound to comply with the HERC order. Therefore, the Government of Haryana has withdrawn the increased rates circular issued by UHBVN. He was addressing a press conference at the rest house of the local public works department on Tuesday.

He said that as per the old rule there was a penalty of Rs 2000 per MW and Rs 20 thousand per 10 MW and even now the old rule will be applicable in the state, the old orders have been withdrawn by the government, these orders will not be applicable in the state. Ranjit Singh said that the electricity situation in the state is very good, currently 9.5 thousand megawatt electricity is consumed per day, which is supplied by the state power corporations.

The power minister said that 1200 MW from both units at Khedar, 700 MW from both units at Yamuna Nagar, two out of three units at Panipat are running and one unit has a technical fault which will be commissioned soon. Apart from this, the state is also getting electricity from the central government. The people of the state will never face any problem regarding electricity.

The Electricity Minister said that smart meters have been started in Gurugram, Faridabad, Karnal and Water. So far seven lakh meters have been installed. Smart meter is very useful, it can be checked anytime how much electricity has been consumed. They can be turned off even when leaving the house and the customers will not have any doubts. He urged the common people to use electricity only as per their need so that energy can be conserved.
