Two people have died in Tamil Nadu’s Thanjavur district, allegedly due to alcohol consumption. Last week, the death toll due to alcohol consumption in the state reached 22. Now once again a similar case has come up. The deceased have been identified as fisherman Kuppasamy and driver Vivek.
A forensic report of samples taken from both the bodies did not confirm the presence of methanol, which is used to make illicit liquor. Methanol overdose was found in 22 of the earlier deaths. After this there was a huge uproar in the entire state and people protested against it. Police are also investigating whether the case is suicide or murder. District Police Chief Ashish Rawat said that the CCTV installed in the bar was not working. He said around 40 people are still undergoing treatment in illegal liquor cases last week. The government has suspended ten policemen, including the SP and two DSPs of Villupuram district, for enforcing the ban. Along with Chengalpattu SP but has been transferred.
In Tamil Nadu, the opposition has been constantly criticizing the government. AIADMK chief EPS has demanded the resignation of Chief Minister MK Stalin.
