Requesting the US lawmaker to issue a statement in favor of his party, Khan said, “If you do, we will appreciate it because if you say something, it goes a long way.” We only want rule of law and constitution and fundamental rights. Your statement will really help us. This audio has come to the fore at a time when violent protests were taking place in the country after the arrest of party chief Imran Khan in a corruption case on 9 May.

Violence after Imran’s arrest

Thousands of party workers and leaders have been arrested for vandalizing and setting fire to public and military institutions across the country during nearly three days of protests since Imran’s arrest. At least 10 people were killed and dozens were injured during the riots. Later, Imran Khan was released on the orders of the court. He has distanced his party from attacks on defense and government buildings and called for an independent judicial commission to investigate the sabotage.
