Karnataka’s 1st cabinet meeting: Siddaramaiah swore in Chief Minister and DK Shivakumar as Deputy Chief Minister at the Kantirava Stadium in Bengaluru on Saturday (May 20) after Congress’ landslide victory in Karnataka. The oath-taking ceremony was attended by senior leaders of the Congress-ruled states and the opposition.
Meanwhile, soon after the formation of the government in Karnataka, after the first cabinet meeting in the capital Bengaluru, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said that we have secured the cabinet’s consent to fulfill all the five promises. The CM said that the complete draft will come in the next cabinet.
A cabinet meeting will be called within a week
It may be noted that the session of Karnataka Assembly is starting from Monday (May 22). New MLAs will take oath. During a press conference in the assembly, CM Siddaramaiah said, ‘Five guarantees were promised in our manifesto in the Karnataka assembly and the order to implement those five guarantees will be given after the first cabinet meeting. The next cabinet meeting will be called within one. After which all five guarantees will be implemented.
What are the Five Guarantees of Congress?
Congress has promised to implement ‘five guarantees’ on the first day of coming to power in Karnataka. These promises include 200 units of free electricity (griha jyoti) to all households, Rs. 2,000 monthly assistance including 10 kg free food (Anna Bhagya) to each member of the Below Poverty Line (BPL) family. For unemployed graduate youth Rs. 3,000 and unemployed diploma holders for two years Rs. 1,500 (both in the 18-25 age group) (Yuva Nidhi) and free travel for women in public transport buses (Shakti).
Earlier on May 19, Congress state president DK Shivakumar had said in Delhi that we are going to implement all our guarantee schemes in the first meeting of the cabinet. We will keep our promises.
