New Delhi: RBI will give an amount of Rs 87,416 crore to the Central Government during the year 2022-23. This decision was taken in the meeting of the Board of Directors under the leadership of RBI Governor Dr. Shaktikanta Das on Friday. Several issues related to the domestic economic situation and the global financial environment were also reviewed in the meeting. Along with this, the board has decided to reserve six per cent of the total capital of the central bank as a buffer. A few years ago, on the basis of the report of a committee constituted under the leadership of RBI Dr. Vimal Jalan, it was decided to transfer a certain amount to the Center as dividend after setting aside 5.5 percent annual reserve as a buffer. In view of the global environment, RBI has now increased the amount of reserve buffer.

Fund transfer is done according to the formula of the Jalan Committee.

Until a few years ago, there used to be a tussle between the two institutions over transfer of surplus deposits with the RBI to the government. Earlier, the RBI did not allow the government to use its surplus funds despite the fact that the government was caught in a financial crisis several times. To resolve this issue, the Jalan Committee was formed in 2018, which recommended transferring a share from RBI to the central government every year under a formula.
