Kolkata, May 20 (Hindustan Times). Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s nephew Abhishek Banerjee was questioned for over nine-and-a-half hours on Saturday in the state’s famous teacher appointment corruption case. According to CBI’s instructions, around 11 am they reached the central agency’s office at CGO Complex. After which he left there at around 8.45 hours. Trinamool Congress leader Kuntal Ghosh, who has already been arrested in the case, had written to the district judge and the Kolkata police claiming that the central agency was forcing him to name Abhishek. CBI has interrogated Abhishek as per the orders of the High Court in this case.

After coming out, he directly attacked Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Leader of Opposition Shubhendu Adhikari. Referring to Sukanya Mandal, daughter of Birbhum district strongman Anuvrat Mandal, who was arrested in cattle smuggling case, Abhishek Banerjee said that Sukanya Mandal is in jail due to 150 times increase in her wealth but Amit Shah’s son Jai Shah’s wealth has increased 1500 times. No one asks him?

Alleging that there was a conspiracy to stop his two-month public relations tour in the district, he said that the CBI is sending me a notice so that my public relations tour can be stopped. Middleman Prasanna Roy, who has named BJP leader Dilip Ghosh, has been arrested in the appointment corruption case. So why is Ghosh not being interrogated?

Also, in an indirect attack on senior BJP MLA and Leader of Opposition Shubhendu Adhikari, Abhishek said, “When he was in Trinamool Congress, the former was in charge of Murshidabad as well as his home district Medinipur. Most of the illegal appointments I was questioned about by the CBI are residents of Mednipur and Murshidabad. Who was responsible on behalf of the party? Why is he not being questioned?

Abhishek said, “Most of the questions asked by the CBI were meaningless. But I have answered whatever the CBI has asked me.

He said, “I have already said that if there is evidence against me, it should be made public. No need to inquire. If corruption is proved anywhere, I will be hanged. My time as well as that of the investigating officers is being wasted.

It may be mentioned that Kuntal Ghosh had written a letter from jail claiming that central agencies were forcing him to nominate Abhishek Banerjee in a corruption case. A day earlier, Abhishek Banerjee held a public meeting at Shaheed Minar Maidan in Kolkata and said that Trinamool leaders had forced him to name me in the chit fund case. After this, there were allegations that such political statements were being made to defame central agencies. The High Court has ordered central agencies to interrogate Abhishek Banerjee and Kuntal in the case. On Friday, the CBI sent a notice to Abhishek and asked him to appear on Saturday. Abhishek was holding a public meeting in Bankura when he received the notice but stopped midway and returned to Kolkata to join the inquiry.
