1984 riots case: CBI files charge sheet against Congress leader Jagdish Tytler

Senior Congress leader Jagdish Tytler’s troubles are increasing. The CBI has filed a chargesheet against him in Delhi’s Rouse Avenue court in connection with the 1984 anti-Sikh riots Pul Bangash Gurdwara fire case. Tytler is accused of inciting the crowd. This enraged the crowd and set the Gurdwara on fire. Three Sikhs were burnt in this incident. The CBI filed a chargesheet against him under Sections 147, 148, 149, 153(A), 188 IPC and Sections 109, 302, 295 and 436.

The CBI registered a case on 22 November 2005 in which a mob set fire to the Pul Bangash Gurdwara in Azad Market and on 1 November 1984 three people Sardar Thakpar Singh, Badal Singh and Gurcharan Singh were burnt near the Pul Bangash Gurdwara.

 

 

In 2000, the Justice Nanavati Commission of Inquiry was set up by the Government of India to investigate the 1984 anti-Sikh riots. Following the commission’s report, the Home Ministry ordered the CBI to investigate the then MP Jagdish Tytler and others.

In 1984, the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi was assassinated by her Sikh bodyguards. After which anti-Sikh riots broke out. In which thousands of people lost their lives.
