Currency Note: RBI has decided to withdraw the 2000 rupee note. RBI has said that Rs 2000 note will be taken out of circulation. Along with this, the Reserve Bank has ordered all other banks not to issue 2000 rupee notes to anyone from now on. Currently available in the market for Rs. 2000 notes can be exchanged till 30 September 2023. The Rs 2000 note will continue to be legal tender even after September 30.

News agency ANI quoted sources as saying that the Rs 2,000 note will remain valid even after September 30. RBI hopes that 4 months is enough time for people to exchange notes from banks. 2000 notes in the market will be returned to the banks by the prescribed deadline of 30 September. This is a regular exercise of RBI and people need not panic.

The Reserve Bank of India has issued a circular saying that there is no restriction on the exchange of Rs 2000 notes. From May 23 to September 30, 2023, people can go to any branch of any bank to exchange notes. However, more rules related to this will be announced soon. A person can easily exchange Rs 2000 notes of denomination up to Rs 20,000 at a time.

Anyone having Rs 2,000 note can deposit it by visiting their nearest bank branch. Till September 30, 2023, people will be able to use the 2000 rupee note in the market as well. No shopkeeper can refuse to take it.

Then the question also arises that what should people do if a bank branch refuses to accept or exchange 2000 rupee notes? If this is the question in your mind, here is the answer.

RBI has said that no bank can refuse to exchange Rs 2000 note. If someone refuses to accept the bank note, the customer can lodge a complaint. The customer will have to complain about this by contacting his bank. If no response is received from the bank within 30 days of lodging the complaint or the customer is not satisfied with the response, he can lodge his complaint on the RBI portal.
