The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on Friday took a major decision on pink notes of Rs 2000 and announced its withdrawal from circulation. However, the Reserve Bank has clearly stated that Rs. 2000 notes will be valid and can be easily exchanged for notes of other denominations. The date has also been fixed for this. But still many types of questions are roaming in the minds of the people regarding the 2000 rupee note. One of these is that how can those who do not have a bank account exchange Rs 2000 notes?
you can easily change it
RBI had said that Rs 2000 note will remain in circulation till 30 September. That is, those who currently have a note of 2000 rupees, they will have to exchange it from the bank. For this, the time has been fixed from 23 May to 30 September. The Reserve Bank of India has advised banks to stop issuing Rs 2000 notes with immediate effect, that is, banks will no longer issue new Rs 2000 notes to customers.
Do I need a bank account to exchange notes?
Now the question is whether a customer can exchange Rs 2000 notes from the same bank in which he has an account? The Reserve Bank has made it clear that anyone can exchange Rs 2,000 notes up to a limit of Rs 20,000 at a time from any branch of any bank in the country. That is, it is not necessary to have a bank account. The Reserve Bank has also said that the facility of currency exchange will be free.
Note exchange limit
2000 rupee notes of more than 20 thousand rupees cannot be changed in one go. The Reserve Bank of India has decided to discontinue the 2000 rupee note under the ‘Clean Note Policy’. Under this policy, RBI will gradually withdraw 2000 notes from the market. According to government statistics, at present Rs. Rs 3.62 lakh crore 2000 notes are in circulation but transactions are very less.
As per RBI guidelines, banks will have a separate window to exchange 2000 notes where you can easily exchange 2000 notes. It can be changed by RBI after the deadline is over. After September 30, 2000 rupee notes can neither be exchanged nor deposited in banks.
printing is off
RBI said in a press release that the printing of Rs 2000 notes was stopped in 2018-19 itself. After demonetisation in November 2016, 2000 thousand rupee notes came into circulation. During demonetisation, 500 and 1000 rupee notes were banned.
