RBI to withdraw 2000 notes, asked banks to stop issuing

RBI Update: Reserve Bank of India (RBI) is going to withdraw 2000 rupee note. However, it will remain legal tender. The Reserve Bank of India has advised banks to stop issuing Rs 2,000 notes with immediate effect. In the year 2016, after demonetisation, 2000 thousand rupees note came into circulation. During demonetisation, 500 and 1000 rupee notes were banned.

RBI said that these notes will remain legal tender (circulation) till 30 September. That is, those who currently have 2000 rupee notes, they will have to change from the bank. RBI said in a press release that the printing of Rs 2000 note was stopped in 2018-19 itself. After demonetisation in November 2016, Rs 2,000,000 note came into circulation. During demonetisation, 500 and 1000 rupee notes were banned.

 

RBI said that from May 23, you can exchange or deposit only Rs 2,000 notes up to Rs 20,000 at a time. For this banks will have to open a special window. Apart from this, 19 branches will open for exchange and deposit of RBI notes. RBI said in a press release that the printing of Rs 2000 note was stopped in 2018-19 itself.

 

After demonetisation in November 2016, Rs 2,000,000 note came into circulation. During demonetisation, 500 and 1000 rupee notes were banned. Meanwhile, the government had said that this step has been taken to end corruption and to stop the printing of fake notes. On this, the opposition parties attacked the central government and said that the government has taken this decision without thinking.
