Jaipur, May 19 (Hindustan Times). The Rajasthan High Court has sought answers from the Chief Home Secretary, DGP, Jaipur Range IG and Alwar SP for not giving a constable a gallantry promotion despite saving the life of a person during a mob lynching in Alwar. Justice Sudesh Bansal passed this order on Kedarmal Gurjar’s petition.
In the plea, Advocate Premchand Devanda told the court that during his posting at the Sadar Police Station in Alwar in the year 2019, the petitioner received information about mob lynching on wireless. On this he left for the spot handing over Head Constable Hariom and Police Station Officer in charge of Chikni Chowki located near the spot. A mob of hundreds of people was beating a man named Hakam Ali badly at the spot. Seeing this, Hariom, in-charge of the post, stood aside and the petitioner bravely controlled the crowd with a stick and saved Hakam Ali. At the same time, within hours, those involved in the attack were also arrested and chargesheeted in court. The petition stated that Hariom, the in-charge of the post, colluded with the officials regarding the incident and sent his name for valor promotion. While he did not do any act of bravery in this incident.
On the other hand, when the petitioner came to know about this, he gave a report to the higher authorities and told about his role in the incident. On that the SHO and CO sent his name for promotion, but the SP did nothing on his file. In this regard, the applicant again presented to the higher authorities. The investigation by the higher authorities found the role of the petitioner to be correct. Thereupon the SP forwarded the applicant’s name to the higher authorities for promotion. It is stated in the petition that despite this the petitioner has not yet been given gallantry promotion. Head Constable Hariom has already become ASI two years ago while giving Shaurya promotion. The single bench hearing on which has called for a reply from the concerned officials.
