Kolkata, May 19 (Hindustan Times). Large areas of South Bengal, including metropolitan Kolkata, received heavy rains along with severe thunderstorms on Friday evening. The Meteorological Department has said that due to wind blowing at a speed of 40 to 50 kilometers per hour, there is fear of falling trees etc. in many places. Apart from this, many areas of Kolkata and Howrah have experienced traffic jams due to heavy rains.
The Meteorological Department has said that rain is occurring due to low pressure on the sea level. The temperature here was around 39 degrees Celsius throughout the day. Heavy rains have provided relief from the heat. Scattered rain will continue till Saturday morning.
