Prayagaraj, 19 May (his). The Allahabad High Court has directed the District Magistrate of Mathura to submit a report on the safety of devotees and the opening and cleaning of the pond during the Gudiya Mela at Mount Govardhan. The court also directed the petitioner to file his complaint before the District Magistrate within 48 hours.
The order was passed by a division bench of Justice Ashwani Kumar Mishra and Justice Vinod Diwakar on a Public Interest Litigation filed by Krishna Kumar Sharma. The court has also appointed an advocate to assist the petitioner.
The petitioner says that a sacred lake has been created on the Govardhan mountain. Devotees are being stopped. The lake has not been cleaned by the administration. Dirt abounds. Encroachment on the sacred lake is permitted. Allowing liquor shops to open in fairs has created hardship for common people. On which the court has ordered the district magistrate to act on the petitioner’s complaint and provide information to the court. The hearing of the application will be conducted on May 30.
