Dehradun. Chardham Yatra, which started in the month of April, was full of difficulties this year. Along with the administration, the devotees also face difficulties due to frequent bad weather. At the same time, an average of 2 devotees have died every day. According to media reports, these deaths were due to cardiac arrest or chronic pulmonary disease. Over the course of 27 days, around one million devotees offered prayers at four Himalayan temples – Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri and Yamunotri – located at 10,000 feet in the Garhwal Himalayas.

The health department team warned 2400 people

According to figures provided by the health department, about 2,400 people were warned by authorities before traveling due to ill health. Those people were made to sign a paper, on which it was written that if any untoward incident happened to them during the journey, Agan himself would be responsible for it. About 7,000 pilgrims suffering from lung problems were given portable oxygen cylinders by the health monitoring team keeping in view the health conditions.

A total of 58 deaths have occurred in 27 days

A senior doctor said there have been 58 deaths in 27 days, mostly related to cardiac arrest and Kedarnath. These pilgrims died on the trek route or in hotels. Most of the dead were from Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat. Rajni Kumari, a 44-year-old pilgrim from Gujarat, who returned from the Kedarnath Yatra, said that after coming this far, no one wants to go back without going to the temple. So, three members of our family decided to carry a portable cylinder.

The state government has issued an advisory

The state government has also issued an advisory for pilgrims coming for the yatra. The advisory states that pilgrims should practice breathing exercises for 5-10 minutes daily. Walking 20-30 minutes daily is also recommended. In addition, passengers suffering from heart disease, asthma, high blood pressure or diabetes should undergo a health check-up to ensure fitness for travel. Along with this, devotees suffering from these diseases have been asked to keep all medicines and test equipment available with them, apart from the contact number of their home doctor. The advisory also says not to travel unless advised by a doctor.
