In the match played on 18 May, Royal Challengers Bangalore defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad by 8 wickets. Chasing a target of 187, RCB skipper Faf du Plessis and Virat Kohli got off to a one-sided start with a brilliant 172-run partnership. Now with this victory, the chances of RCB reaching the playoffs have increased considerably.
After the win against Sunrisers Hyderabad, RCB now have 14 points after 13 matches. Due to a better net run rate than Mumbai Indians, the team has now moved straight to the fourth position in the points table. RCB have to play their last league match against Gujarat Titans, who have already qualified for the playoffs, which is also the last league match of the season.
Defeat from Chennai, Lucknow or Mumbai will make it easier for RCB
With Gujarat Titans qualifying for the playoffs, there will be a tough fight between Chennai Super Kings, Lucknow Super Giants, Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore for the remaining 3 spots. CSK and Lucknow currently have 15-15 points and if either of these two teams lose their last league match then it will be a bit easier for RCB to make it to the playoffs. Even in such a situation, it will be very important for the team to win their last league match.
Mumbai Indians also have 14 points but are placed 5th in the points table after RCB. Now if Mumbai wins their last league match, then RCB will also have to enter their last league match considering all the equations. On the other hand, if Mumbai lose their last league match then the season will end with 14 points. After this, RCB can qualify for the playoffs despite losing their last league match as their net run rate is still in plus.
