Ahmedabad: The number of billionaires in India will increase from 161 to 195 over the next five years, while the number of Ultra High Net Worth Individuals (UHLI) will increase by 58.4 percent to 19,119 from 2022 to 2027. Real estate investment advisory firm Knight Frank has made such predictions in its Wealth Report 2023 released today. The most important prediction is that the number of people belonging to the richest one percent of the country’s population will double within five years.
Different countries have different criteria for inclusion in the richest one percent of the population based on their economic development, per capita income and size of the economy. The richest one percent in India consists of people who have a net worth of $1 million or 8.2 crores. This top one percent currently includes 79,714 people. It will double to 107 percent or 16.5 lakh in the year 2027. According to the report, India currently has 12,069 ultra high net worth individuals with a net worth of more than $30 million.
According to this report, the number of ultra high net worth individuals in the world will increase by 9.3 percent in 2021 and then decrease by 3.8 percent in 2022. The year 2022 saw a decrease in their wealth due to increase in interest rates, recession in the economy, wars and other events like wars. Like other countries of the world, India also sees a decline of 7.5 percent in the number of such people in 2022.
However, the number of people with a net worth of more than $1 million in India increased by 4.5 percent. Apart from this, the number of billionaires in India has also increased by 11 percent, according to the report.
Over the last few years, the Indian economy has been growing both in traditional and other activities. Investments and assets are also being attracted to India as India is emerging as a major hub for start-ups in the world. Knight Frank India Chairman Shishir Bijal said that apart from this, heavy investment in manufacturing, infrastructure, technology sector has accelerated India’s economic growth and due to this wealth creation is also being seen.
On the other hand, the doors of investment in the industry and economy of the Gulf countries have also opened. An average of 20 to 3 million dollars is required to start an industry or business here. Majority of these investments are coming from UAE, India and UK.
