FPI investment declined by 11 percent: $70 billion drop over the previous year

Ahmedabad: Foreign portfolio investors (FPI) investment in the Indian stock market declined by 11 percent year-on-year to $ 542 billion in the March quarter of 2023.

In January-March 2022, FPI investment in the Indian stock market stood at $612 billion. FPI investment in the Indian stock market declined by seven per cent on a quarter-on-quarter basis. It was $ 584 billion in October-December 2022.

His investment in Indian stock markets has increased for the last three consecutive quarters. With this, the market capitalization of FPIs in Indian stocks has come down from 17.8 per cent to 17.3 per cent in March 2023.

After withdrawing record amount in FY 2021-22, FPI continued to sell them in last FY 2022-23 as well. Amid aggressive interest rate hikes by central banks globally, FPIA has raised Rs. 37,631 crores were withdrawn. This is the first time since the inception of foreign investment in 1993 that FPIs are selling for two consecutive financial years.
