New Delhi, May 19 (Hindustan Times). Defending champion and 14-time winner of Roland Garros, Rafael Nadal has pulled out of the upcoming French Open. Despite his tireless efforts, Nadal has not fully recovered from the hip injury he suffered during the Australian Open in January.
Nadal expressed his frustration about the progress of the injury in Australia and said that 2024 could be the last year of his career.
“I will be 100 percent ready for next year, which I think will be the last year of my professional career,” Nadal told a news conference at his Rafa Nadal Academy in Manacor, Spain.
He said, “I will not fix any date for my return. I will see how my body reacts and if all goes well, I might come back for Davis Cup by the end of the year.”
“If I keep playing at this point, I don’t think I can be there next year… I just haven’t recovered from the injury I had in Australia the way I wanted to. At this point in time, I will not be able to be at Roland Garros. This tournament is special for me, you can imagine how difficult it is.
The French Open starts on 28 May.
