AICC announces Siddaramaiah as next CM of Karnataka, DK Shivakumar as Deputy CM: The suspense over who will be the CM of Karnataka is over. Senior Congress leader and former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has been officially declared as the Chief Minister of Karnataka by the AICC. Siddaramaiah will take oath as CM on April 20. The Congress leadership on Thursday made an official statement that Karnataka PCC President DK Shivakumar will be the Deputy CM. Apart from this, Shivakumar will continue as the president of Karnataka PCC. Congress has made it clear that Karnataka will have only one Deputy CM.

After midnight on Wednesday (Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah) the Congress party agreed on the formation of the Karnataka government. Party general secretary KC Venugopal and Karnataka affairs in-charge Randeep Surjewala announced the chief minister’s name at a media conference on Thursday afternoon. It seems that Sonia Gandhi is behind DK Shivakumar accepting the post of Deputy CM. Congress sources said that Sonia accepted the post of Deputy CM after persuading them.

KC Venugopal said… ‘Karnataka’s victory has filled the Congress with enthusiasm. All the leaders including the party high command have worked hard. We are a democratic party. There are big leaders in Karnataka Congress. On May 14, we held the assembly meeting of Karnataka. We took the opinion of MLAs on who is the CM. Siddaramaiah’s name as Chief Minister has been finalized by the administration. DK Shivakumar will take charge as the sole Deputy CM. Apart from this he also has the responsibility of State PCC Chairman. Shivakumar will continue to hold these responsibilities till the Lok Sabha elections next year.

Congress MLA meeting will be held in Bengaluru on Thursday (May 18) night. In this meeting, MLAs will officially elect the new Chief Minister of Karnataka. They will then submit their decision to the Governor. Siddaramaiah will take oath as the new Chief Minister and DK Shivakumar as the Deputy Chief Minister on May 20. A few others will also swear with him.
