An alternative route to Imphal Valley was opened via NH-37

Imphal: The supply of essential commodities like medicine and ration in Imphal Valley was also affected amid unrest in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district fueled by ethnic violence. To facilitate this, the Assam Rifles (AR) along with the Manipur Police and Civil Administration have opened an alternative route for the supply route to the Imphal Valley through National Highway-37.

Assam Rifles sources said on Tuesday that civilian vehicles, goods trucks and oil tankers are extensively using this additional route from Assam to Imphal Valley. Drivers of vehicles plying along NH-37 thanked Assam Rifles and Civil Administration for providing safe passage from Noni to Imphal Valley.

It may be noted that vehicles passing through the main road in violence-hit Manipur were stopped at many places. Due to this, the situation of shortage of essential commodities has started to arise in the state. A convoy of trucks had to stop and return. In such a situation, with the joint efforts of the security agencies and the civil administration, an alternative route has been opened to restore the supply of goods.
