Discussion about distribution of food among devotees coming to Ambubasi Mela

Guwahati, May 15 (Hindustan Times). A meeting was organized under the chairmanship of Additional Deputy Commissioner Dr. Dhruvajyoti Hazarika today at the Kamrup (Metro) District Deputy Commissioner’s office to discuss the arrangement of food distribution among the devotees coming from all over the country for the upcoming Ambubasi Mela. The meeting, which was held in the presence of Additional Deputy Commissioner Vikram Chhetri and Deputy Director of Supplies Department, was also attended by representatives of NGOs that had arranged food in pilgrim camps in previous years.

Among the responsibilities assigned to the institutions by the district administration, they will prepare food in the camps and distribute it to the devotees. While preparing food for devotees, great importance is given on maintaining cleanliness and high quality food. The devotees will be served breakfast, lunch and dinner as well as morning and evening tea in the camp.

Apart from this, pure drinking water will also be provided to the devotees by the institutions. The district administration has directed devotees to avoid plastic plates, glasses etc. while serving food and drinking water. The district administration has also requested the NGOs to arrange plates, glasses used after food supply for sanitation, so that municipal staff can easily remove them.

Let us tell you that a four-day historic Ambubasi Mela is organized every year in the month of June at Shaktipeeth Kamakhya Dham. Every year lakhs of local and foreign devotees, saints and mahatmas participate in it.
