Karnataka Rain: Heavy rains today in these parts of the state; Thunderstorm forecast!

Karnataka Weather Update 14-05-2023: It has started raining in the coastal areas of Karnataka in the early morning. It is being told that the reason for this has become severe due to the cyclonic storm Moka rising from the Andaman Sea. It is reported that four people have lost their lives due to heavy rains in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Mandya and Maddur since last few days.

 

The cyclone is currently centered about 700 km south-southwest of Cox’s Bazar. In the last 6 hours, this storm is slowly moving towards northeast at a speed of 10 kmph. It is very likely to cross the coast between Cox’s Bazar (Bangladesh) and Kyawpyu (Myanmar) this afternoon, the department said.

The storm (Cyclone Mocha/Mocha) is likely to make landfall. Winds with a speed of 160 to 180 kmph will hit the coast. After crossing the coast, the speed of the storm decreases. With its effect, the department has indicated that today there will be heavy rains in the coastal areas of West Bengal, Odisha, Bangladesh and Myanmar.

 

Coming to the rest of the country, light to moderate rains occurred over Andaman and Nicobar Islands on Saturday. Along with this, there has been heavy rain in some places. Light rains also occurred over South Kerala, Manipur, Lakshadweep, Coastal Kerala, Interior Karnataka and South Maharashtra. Whereas, the weather remained dry and hot in most parts of North India including Delhi-NCR. Heat wave continued in parts of West Rajasthan, Saurashtra, Kutch.

According to private weather agency Skymet, there is a possibility of light to moderate rains in Northeast India from today till May 16. Thunderstorm very likely at most places over Tripura and Mizoram today. Heavy rain may occur at isolated places over Nagaland, Manipur and South Assam on 14th and 15th May. The Meteorological Department has forecast moderate to heavy rains over East Assam and Arunachal Pradesh from May 14 to 16.

 

Talking about the national capital Delhi, there is a possibility of thunderstorm and dust storm in many areas today. Apart from Delhi, similar weather conditions will prevail over parts of Punjab, Haryana, North Rajasthan, Delhi and West Uttar Pradesh. Light to moderate rain is likely over the Western Himalayas. There may be light snowfall in the higher hilly areas. Heat wave conditions may prevail in parts of Gujarat, West Rajasthan, West Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha. Moderate rains are expected over Kerala, South Karnataka and Lakshadweep.
