Congress flag hoisted in Rae Bareli municipality

Rae Bareli, 13 May (his). All the results of the local body elections came late in the evening. The fate of candidates has been decided in nine Nagar Panchayats including Rae Bareli Municipality. While the Congress registered its resounding victory in the Municipalities, BJP-5, Congress-1 and Independents won 3 seats in nine Nagar Panchayats. Congress has registered a historic victory on the prestigious seat of the city municipality.

Congress candidate Shatrughan Sonkar defeated BJP candidate Shalini Kanaujia by a margin of 17557 votes. Rae Bareli city municipal seat was very important for BJP. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath held a big meeting for this. After which Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya and Brijesh Pathak held a meeting. Not only this, the district in-charge minister Pratibha Shukla was constantly camping in Rae Bareli. Despite this strength, Congress candidate Shatrughan Sonkar has secured a big victory by getting 43359 votes. BJP’s Shalini Kanojia got 25602 votes at the second position.

The Samajwadi Party, which made a strong claim in this election, has faced a humiliating defeat. SP candidate Parasnath has got 10537 votes. Lalganj, the district’s largest town panchayat, also went to the Congress, where the party’s Sarita Gupta won by defeating BJP’s Uma Pandey by 1258 votes. From Dalmau, BJP’s Brajesh Dutt Gaur defeated SP’s Mo Akram by 644 votes. In Maharajganj, BJP’s Sarla Sahu defeated SP’s Somnath Vaish by 1378 votes.

From Unchahar, BJP’s Mamata Jaiswal defeated BSP’s Tabassum Khatun by 1105 votes. From Shivgarh, BJP’s Suman Gautam won by defeating independent Archana Gautam by 3305 votes. In Bachrawan, BJP’s Shivendra Singh defeated SP’s Pramod Chaudhary by 2258 votes. Independent Vinod Kaushal won from Parshdepur by defeating SP M Islam Nadvi by 128 votes. Independent Shekhar Rastogi defeated SP’s Ali Ahmed from Salon by 1167 votes.

There was a ruckus during the counting in Naseerabad, where BJP candidate Anisa Bano demanded a recount and her supporters created ruckus. Which was rejected by District Magistrate Mala Srivastav. From Nasirabad, independent candidate Mo Ali defeated BJP candidate Anisa Bano by 520 votes and won for the first time. Meanwhile, tight security arrangements were made and senior officials kept visiting the counting venue.
