A unit of Dr. Agarwal Eye Hospital “J.P. Eye Hospital” held a press conference on 12th May in Mohali, openly discussed the campaign to support eye donation and announced that they would walk % km on Sunday, 14th May to promote eye donation. Zaira (Principal, Institute for the Blind, Sector 26, CD) shared her views on the importance of eye donation. This campaign was organized by J.P. Eye Hospital, a unit of Agarwal Eye Hospital, India’s largest chain of eye hospitals, has done this while fulfilling its social responsibility towards the nation. Dr. Jatinder Singh, Medical Director and Head of Clinical Services, Mohali Unit briefed about the campaign as well as the importance of eye donation.

The campaign will be run on Sunday, May 14 from 5:30 am to 7:30 am in the parking area of ​​JPI Hospital, 35 Phase 7 Mohali to Phase 7 Bazar. Mr. Gurpreet Singh Bhullar (IPS, IGP, Commissioner, Punjab Police) and Ms. Ashika Jain (IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Mohali) flagged off the walkathon at 6.15 pm. SSP Mohali Dr. Sandeep Garg IPS and famous actors of Punjabi film industry Jaswinder Bhalla and Mrs. Gurwinder Kaur will participate in this ceremony to be held on Sunday.

President of Aggarwal Eye Hospital, Dr. Amar Aggarwal stressed the need for eye donation. Many people promise to donate eyes, but with their death the main purpose of eye donation ends. So it is my humble request to the citizens of India that they must donate eyes after their death.

We, Dr. Jatinder Singh, the founder of J.P.I Hospital expressed our gratitude for this initiative and said, “Our main objective is to “Prevent and cure global blindness”. On the charitable front, we have organized more than 850 free eye operation camps in the region of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Madhya Pradesh, in which more than 3 lakh people were screened free of cost, more than 150000 More spectacles were distributed for free. Over 90000 successful eye surgeries have been performed free of cost with lens fitting and cost.

Out of the total 10 million prevalent cases of blindness in India, there are 1.2 lakh corneal blind who need corneal transplant, and only 23000 eyes were donated in the year 21-22 and 56000 in the year 22-23. Of these, only 27,000 eyes could be used for the purpose and the rest were not suitable for transplant. Our Dr. Agarwal Eye Bank contributed to 3016 eye acquisition procedures in 2022-2023 and Dr. Eye Hospitals collectively across India. A total of 1021 transplants were performed by Agarwal’s group.
