Prayagraj: The Hindu party has won a major victory in the alleged Shivlinga case found in the Gnanavapi Masjid adjacent to the Kashi Vishwanath Temple in Varanasi. The Allahabad High Court on Friday allowed the carbon dating i.e. scientific survey of the Shivling found in the Gnanavapi Masjid. A day earlier, the ASI had submitted its report in the High Court, which said that a scientific survey of the Shivling can be done in five ways without damaging it.
The Allahabad High Court has accepted a plea seeking scientific survey and carbon dating of the Shivling found during a survey in the Gnanavapi premises and ordered the ASI to carry out carbon dating without damaging the ‘Shivling’.
Varanasi district court refused carbon dating after Supreme Court order to maintain status quo at Gnanavapi campus. This court order was challenged in the High Court. This order of the High Court was quashed. Allahabad High Court Justice Arvind Kumar Mishra passed the order on a petition filed by Lakshmi Devi and others.
Now the Allahabad High Court has ordered the Archaeological Survey of India to conduct a scientific survey to determine the age, nature and structure of the Shivling found in the Gnanavapi complex. The High Court directed the Archaeological Survey of India to conduct a scientific survey of the Shivlinga found in the Gnanavapi premises based on the scientific reports submitted by IIT Roorkee, IIT Kanpur and BSIP Lucknow.
It may be mentioned that the proceedings of the commission took place in the Gnanavapi campus. Meanwhile, on May 16, 2022, an alleged Shivalinga was found in the premises, in respect of which the Hindu party sought a scientific survey from the ASI.
