Yogi government’s ‘Love Jihad Bill’ passed in assembly

The Legislative Assembly has passed the Uttar Pradesh Laws Against Religion Transformation Prohibition Bill 2021. The government had brought an ordinance in this matter. It is also known as Anti Love Jihad Bill. This bill was passed by voice vote. However, now after passing this bill in the Legislative Council, it will be sent to the Governor for signature. After that it will become a law.

Let us know that on November 24, the Uttar Pradesh cabinet approved the ordinance on Love Jihad. After this it was sent to Governor Anandiben Patel to be passed. The Governor gave his approval to this ordinance on 28 November 2020. With this, this ordinance came into force in the state. After which the state government had to pass this ordinance from the assembly within 6 months.

According to the provisions of this law ordinance, in Uttar Pradesh, there will be a provision of strict punishment in the case of love jihad, ie, conversion of religion by unlawful way or marrying without religion. Before marriage, notice has to be given 2 months before for conversion. The local collector will give permission in such cases. There will be imprisonment for 10 years for illegally committing illegal conversions, marrying name and religion. A woman, SC / ST or Vulnerable group will have to face a jail term of 2 years to 10 years for illegal conversion.
